FranceConnect does not store any username or password. Recovering access to FranceConnect means restoring the account of the identity provider you use to authenticate. Confusing the gateway and the source account remains the primary cause of blockage reported by users.
Technical Diagnosis Before Any Password Reset
Before initiating a recovery procedure, we recommend isolating the actual source of the blockage. A FranceConnect login failure does not necessarily mean an incorrect password.
The redirect loops reported by users in 2026 often stem from the technical session, not from the credentials themselves. An expired cookie, a saturated browser cache, or an ad-blocking extension can interrupt the exchange between the public service and the identity provider.
- Clear your browser’s cache and cookies, then restart the connection in private browsing mode to eliminate any session conflicts.
- Temporarily disable extensions (ad blockers, built-in VPNs) that intercept HTTP redirects between domains.
- Test another browser or device: if the connection succeeds, the problem is local and not related to your account.
- Check that the chosen identity provider is still active. The YRIS account, for example, has not been usable with FranceConnect since July 1, 2026.
If you can log into your account on Aipdb to view the detailed procedure, you will find that this diagnostic step is often sufficient to resolve the situation without resetting anything.

Recovery of the Identity Provider Account: impots.gouv.fr, ameli, and La Poste Digital Identity
Each identity provider manages its own credentials, independently of FranceConnect. The recovery procedure therefore depends on the account you usually use to authenticate.
Personal Space impots.gouv.fr
The reset process goes through the login page of impots.gouv.fr. Enter your tax number and date of birth, then follow the reset link sent to the email address associated with the account. If this address is no longer accessible, you must contact the public finance center you depend on to update your information.
For individuals who have never declared income in France, creating a personal space goes through the Tax Contact portal, via a dedicated form.
ameli Account (Health Insurance)
On ameli.fr, the forgotten password procedure requires your social security number and sends a validation code via email or SMS. The social security number serves as a unique identifier on this account and cannot be changed.
If you no longer have access to the registered email or phone number, you will need to go to your primary health insurance fund with an ID to update this information.
La Poste Digital Identity and France Identity
These two digital identities operate via a mobile application. Recovery involves reinstalling the application, followed by a new identity verification (scanning an ID card or passport). Neither of these digital identities allows access recovery via simple email, as the security level requires biometric or documentary verification.
Identity Provider Removed or Incompatible with FranceConnect+
An identity provider that works for a standard portal may not be accepted for a procedure requiring FranceConnect+ or a higher verification level. This distinction regularly traps users who think they have lost their access when their account is functioning, but not for the targeted service.
The removal of the YRIS account since July 1, 2026, illustrates this mechanism. Affected users do not have a blocked account per se. They must select another available provider from those listed on the FranceConnect login page and create or activate this new digital identity if necessary.
Before attempting multiple resets, check that your provider is still listed among the available accounts on franceconnect.gouv.fr. The currently accepted providers are impots.gouv.fr, ameli, La Poste Digital Identity, MSA, France Identity, and TrustMe.

Securing FranceConnect Access After Account Recovery
A compromised access via FranceConnect must be addressed at the identity provider level, not just at the service being accessed. If you suspect fraudulent use, the first action is to change the password of the source account, then check the connection history from the FranceConnect dashboard.
The dashboard, accessible at tableaudebord.franceconnect.gouv.fr, allows you to verify the list of services to which your identity has been transmitted. Any unrecognized connection should be reported to the relevant identity provider and, if the action was taken without your knowledge, to the targeted public service.
We also recommend activating a second identity provider as a backup solution. Having two compatible FranceConnect accounts (for example, impots.gouv.fr and ameli) prevents you from being blocked if one of them is temporarily unavailable or removed from the partner list.
Recovering FranceConnect access boils down to a simple technical rule: the lock is always on the identity provider’s side, never on FranceConnect itself. Identifying the correct account, applying the reset procedure specific to that service, and then checking compatibility with the authentication level required for the targeted procedure is sufficient in the vast majority of cases.
